With our Political Campaign Season drawing to an end (thank God)  I have often had conversations and have made observations which have had made me think of when and who created the woman’s Pantsuit.  This thought in no way makes a statement of my Presidential preference in this very comical and extremely distressing time in American History.

Just a simple Fashion question:  Who Gave us Pantsuits?
Thank You YSL : Yves Saint Laurent

unnamed
He is also responsible for launching and designing the tunic, pea coat and the ever popular trench coat.
In 1967 YSL’s gender-bending pantsuits for women were presented as evening wear.

Halloween Fashion Fun…

RESALE AND VINTAGE SHOPS LOVE THIS HOLIDAY!!!

Flapper still the rage along with 1950’s inspired Mad Men and…3 BLIND “SEXY” MICE, SEXY is still in!!!

From outfits inspired by top movies and musicians to hit TV shows and – ahem, certain politicians, I found A FEW costumes expected to dominate Halloween 2016, according to the National Retail Federation.
“Harley Quinn” was the breakout character of “Suicide Squad,” and she’s also the inspiration behind one of the top Halloween costumes this year. Dressing as a character from the DC Comics franchise is the No. 1 trend among adult costumes for 2016. Quickly followed by the new rage of Pokemon Lovers.

The Loafer’s BIG Moment…again!

scasfadfnsdng
Pay attention men and ladies who dress their men! It all started in 1936 when the Bass Co. introduced Weejuns. The Ivy League types and those who went on to read the Official Preppy Handbook understand the significance of the Penny Loafer called such because you could slip .10 cents in the toe flap to make a phone call if needed.
There’s the Dress Loafer, the Horse bit Loafer, the Suede Loafer men have never had so many options when it comes to the preppy
slip-on staple footwear. Then there is the question of socks or no socks.

.Image result for men loafer images

The resurgence of this footwear classic is due to the more casual work style of dress and the many “Famous Feet” who have even worn loafers on the Red Carpet. Let’s not forget Micheal Jackson in “Thriller” or we can go way back to the 1950’s and remember Gene Kelly in “Summer Stock”, apparently Loafers are made for dancing too!!!

Go ahead and shine yours up BUT remember to slip a shiny penny from the year you were born in the toe flap. That’s what the cool kids do!!!

Women Dislike Pantyhose. Hipstik Legwear Is The Solution.

Sorry ladies (and men) but Fall is just around the corner and if you worked more than played this amazing summer then you are probably already starting to reintroduce your legging or even your stockings back into your wardrobe. If so you are quickly reminded why you may have a love have relationship with these garments. The waist is cinched and tucked and supported, but the discomfort level hasn’t improved from last season.

FashionForawrd

Well there are new products on the market to save the day, or in this case your stomach…
I discovered a line of products, low-rise, opaque tights that are poised to change women’s perceptions of pantyhose and hosiery by tackling the biggest complaints: comfort, size and fit. Try a little HIPSTCK this season and see what the new wide lace stick back waistline hosiery can do for you!

Transitioning from Summer to Fall Fashions

unnamed

The designers are ready!
The stores are ready!
Are You?

It can be a challenging time of year to dress fashionably and keep on trend. The runways, magazines, and many many stores are already packed for Fall 2016. The season looks to be one of the best with some deep hues of eggplant, and aubergine, teal and deep wine. But don’t rush into fall without enjoying the rest of our amazing summer. Balance your transition to keep your style flowing.

dfndzfgnad

Fall to me means adding that 3rd garment and chunky leather accessories into the mix. The Sweater, duster or vest! Hold back adding the fall/winter plaids and keep floral alive a little longer by adding a kiss of it under the cotton jacket or lightweight cashmere. You can swap your sandal for a boot anytime and go ahead a show a little leg with that above the knee skirt or dress if your tan is still holding on! Toss that old fashion rule out the door and go ahead and wear that white BOHO CHIC look with cotton flouncy romantic linen or cotton blends with your sturdy denim or tiered skirts. … and my favorite leather! We will save the leather and lace topic for another day!!!

Gender-Neutral Clothing … has gone from high-fashion runway to everyday dress!

Trendy Markets & Brands Go For It!!!

unnamedGenderless jeans, jackets, and shirts are among the trendiest…so who hasn’t worn a man’s (or your boyfriends) shirt or even for one reason or another needed to slip into his denim? Let’s not forget that leftover favorite from the 80’s the ever popular denim jacket!

I know Caitlyn (Bruce) is having a moment, but in my opinion I’m not ready for most girls to dress like men (sorry Ellen) or men to dress completely like a woman, I do enjoy watching men maneuver in kilts from time to time however!

Rules of going sleeveless~ The right to bare arms.

unnamed

Summer Fashions can be challenging for some. Going sleeveless can be a surprisingly controversial decision.

The bare-armed look is everywhere these days, on women of every age and size. Stores are overflowing with tank sheaths and other shoulder baring tops and dresses. “The cold-shoulder” look is all the rage! Corporate America has very strong guidelines for this skin- baring season.
Questions you should ask yourself:
Are you too old?
Are your arms toned enough?
asfasfasfasf

It’s the number one request of many many clients, They need a dress or top with sleeves or a shrug to go with a sleeveless dress or top to cover their arms.

Wedding Season has arrived!

Your invite arrives and it is 4 days of non-stop partying!
Hotels, wedding gifts….and what to wear!!!

wedding attire women wedding attire men

Your suitcase is out and your ready to address the invite recommended attire.
“Boating Best” for the yacht or boat tour of the surrounding waterway!
Theme Rehearsal parties are all the rage… an “All White Party” since on the wedding day the only one who should be wearing a hue of white is the Bride so she gives her guests a chance to wear the wedding color for the evening before festivities.
“Hangover Chic” for the Day after wedding Brunch…

So after coming up with a dress code recommendation for a swanking celebration using cute and clever wording remember your guests want to be dressed to your liking, so be ready for a flood of questions from your puzzled guests. Most of us have challenging enough time addressing the catchall “Business Casual” or “Black Tie Optional” so a few specific guidelines may help your guests pack for the occasion. (Especially for men if a sport coat is required)

Time to hoe out that closet…

Do you know which Designer Labels and types of garments retain the Most Resale Value?

Let me list a few points of interest to help you navigate your precious garments…

1. Each Resale store is different. DO YOUR HOMEWORK, so that you are not disappointed if you decide to just “walk-in” with a garbage bag of wrinkled castaways. Resale specialty boutiques vary: from children’s clothing, to toys and baby equipment, to my favorite of course, women’s designer high-end luxury labels.

tory burch

2. Corporate America, like J.P. Morgan offices are going business casual, so if you are looking to unload some business suits, you won’t find a resale market for them locally. Suits sell slowly and hold their value miserably- it truly is the worst selling category, in addition to
PANTS (Trousers) DON’T SELL, but if your yoga pants are by lulu lemon…any RESALE MARKET IS HOT FOR THOSE like new items!!!

chanel 1

3. Which labels hold their value and at what rate of the original price:

Hermes 70%

CHANEL 67%

Louis Vuitton 67%
Tory Burch 64%
Burberry 62%

Again, do your homework, there are trending brands and popular departments that can make you some play money!

Pockets…Fashion Forward…we aren’t using Pocket Protectors anymore!!!

Tops: MEN The plain pocket tee has become the male version of the little black dress, appropriate for any occasion. There was a time when we knew the T-shirt made the man. Or, more accurately, we knew that the picture and/or words on the T-shirt made the man. But fashion trend has altered our way of thinking. The European sleek look of a smooth chest line is all the rage.
POCKETS ~ For fashion, the opportunity is either a huge headache or a design opportunity. Some brands are considering what this could mean for the future of pant pockets and tops.

TOPS: Some of my clients, friends and family members with a fuller bust stay away from tops, dresses and jackets with breast pockets. They feel that breast pockets make their bust look larger and draw attention to their bustline, which they don’t want to do. The effect is more pronounced if the fabric is bulky and there are flaps on the pockets. Or if the pockets are ruched and gathered in some way to create volume over the bust. Some styles of breast pocket create a focal point in the outfit, like bias cut plaid breast pockets on a plaid shirt that draw the eye straight to the bustline. Or high-contrast color blocked breast pockets that do the same thing.
There are, however, two breast pocket designs that my clients are perfectly happy to wear even when they are concerned about emphasizing their bustline.
I recommend an invisible pocket where the pattern camouflages the pocket within the pattern OR tops with pockets that set a bit higher above the breast line.

PANTS: There is a belief it seems that women don’t want pockets because they will bulk up the sleek lines of fashion, making us look chunky through the hips. And it is true that form-fitting clothing does not leave room for bulky pockets but with the new cell phone sizes becoming lager and larger… women’s pant designers need to take note, men’s trousers have been adjusted and most pockets are deeper and more accommodating for our current technology must have!

The 2016 Met Gala

The 2016 Met Gala theme this year for the Costume Institute Gala Benefit was celebrating the opening of the Manus x Machina: Fashion in an Age of Technology exhibition. The annual event brings together the most stylish stars, models, and fashion designers. Check out the photos below. Several stars attempted to incorporate bold tech-influenced looks and daring colors into their gowns and accessories.

With a ‘man vs machine: fashion in the age of technology’ theme, most celebs hitting the carpet appeared to have missed the memo — but not Claire Danes. Lady GAGA and Madonna known for their extreme costume attire may want a refund. Taylor Swift as we know her…totally missed the mark with her black lipstick!!!

keep your baby centered in the back seat, furthest from both side windows. Even better, have UV-blocking film applied to all the windows—the sun’s ultraviolet A (UVA) radiation can penetrate glass, but window film will block almost 100 percent of both UVA and ultraviolet B (UVB) rays without reducing visibility.

Line of Vision:

One way to ward off the unseasonable winter blues is by enjoying the spectrum of stars in bright stripes that have all the subtly of a TV or Radio “OFF-AIR SIGNAL”. Also, the right pattern or stripping can create an illusion of a slimmer or even a more curvaceous figure. Many designers use Black and White to capture this style friend.

Hillary Clinton Appeals To The Fashion Crowd With Chic Campaign Shirts:

Hillary Clinton’s campaign just got a little bit trendier, thanks to Marc Jacobs, Tory Burch, and other designers.
The presidential hopeful commissioned the designers to create campaign T-shirts, each retailing for $45 at shop.hillaryclinton.com.

Alongside each shirt on the website is a quote from its designer, either describing the shirt or giving a reason for their involvement with the campaign. “My support for Hillary is grounded on our long – standing shared belief in equality.” Jacobs said. “I am proud to share this T-shirt as a champion for equal rights, for the progress we have made and for the hope of continued progress with Hillary as president.”

Fashion Week is not normally the first event that comes to mind when one thinks of the perfect time to hold a political fund-raiser.
But perhaps that is because one is not Anna Wintour, the artistic director of Condé Nast and editor of American Vogue, publicly declared Hillary Clinton supporter (she wore a customized Hillary “Made in History” T-shirt to Marc Jacobs’s show during New York Fashion Week) and former high-profile fund-raiser for the Obama campaign.

love heart hands

The Art of Flirting & Teasing!!! The Season of LOVE
It started as soon as the Christmas decorations came down. Valentines and those heart-shaped boxes of chocolates appeared in stores, and ads for jewelry began running on TV.The pressure is on. I’m more of a minimalist so my expectations are pretty simple: Lucky the man in my life!
TEXTING:
Can’t wait to see you tonight. I think you’re going to like what you see ?(Emoji is a must!!!)
If you’re planning to see him later on, why not get him excited? He’ll love reading this and you’ll definitely spark his interest.
Love Letters and Giving Cards:
About 1 billion Valentine’s Day cards are exchanged each year. This makes it the second largest seasonal card sending time of the year. Why wait until Valentine’s Day, write a “LOVE LETTER” to one another!
Do you love your pet more:
Based on retail statistics, about 3 per cent of pet owners will give Valentine’s Day gifts to their pets.
Something for everybody:
If you’re single don’t despair~You can celebrate 2/14 as Singles Awareness Day (SAD) instead.

Turtlenecks Are Trending…

I asked my daughter what she bought with some of her Christmas money and she got super excited about showing me her new turtleneck knit sweater! I laughed because of all my children it was Taylor who hated the thought of wearing a turtleneck. I asked her why she loved it now and she said it keeps her neck warm and the bottom is wider at the bottom and it’s not like the “VICE” turtlenecks that I use to try and dress her in as a child.

turtleneck trioI also asked a few others of an older generation and some said they have never worn a turtleneck and some even said dickies were their thing! A fashion trend I can almost gaurentee WON”T come back! I did ask a guy about his turtleneck fashion opinion and he thought it was a garment a girl wore to hide those “extra kisses” on her neck!!!! Really!!!!?????

Turtlenecks aren’t for everyone, those of us with shorter necks struggle a bit to pull off the look just right! With winter finally showing up try a turtleneck chunky sweater with a more flirty romantic style fabric skirt maxi style!

What to do with the Gift items that you don’t quite love or it doesn’t quite fit.

Are you a “RE-GIFTER” ? Think of it as the gift that keeps giving! You can be the ultimate “UPCYCLER”

The Holiday is here and the well thought gifts are purchased, ordered and wrapped.

Most of us have received those “NOT” so perfect fitting or styled gifts…now what do we do with them? Of course, we thank the gift giver and promise to enjoy their well though out offering.

My Mother has always enjoyed shopping and continues to be rather current in her Fashion Style, and she is more than generous, however, she insists on giving every grandchild a fleece scarf, glove and hat set, slippers and pj set, every Christmas. Now I gave up buying clothing for my 3 daughters years ago, Gift Cards are their thing. So the “No Thank You” Bag and the non-wearables (without a gift receipt) go straight to donation after the Holiday Season.

Happy Hollidays!

Denim Debbie …Denim Dan

Canadian Denim Tuxedo… many say it’s a FASHION NO NO!!!

44141
How to wear Denim and NOT look like a Rodeo Cowboy, not that Rodeos or Cowboys are bad things…

How to Wear: Head-to-Toe Denim:::

unnamed

If you uttered the term “Canadian Tuxedo” to any fashion editor just a decade ago, I guarantee the reaction would have been rolled eyes and skeptical raised eyebrows. However, as with all things in fashion, this once fabled faux pas has evolved into a chic sartorial trend. (Fashion is always recycling itself!) I love the look of denim. It can range anywhere from classic and all-American to edgy and eclectic. Personally, I’m a fan of pairing my basic semi light was blue jeans with a button up dark chambray shirt. Tips for my denim lovers:::

#1 Wear Different Washes of Denim Together

unnamed4

#2 Wear a Chambray Shirt With Colored Jeans

#3 Try a Structured Silhouette, a tailored blazer will update any tone on tone denim outfit!

denim
Colored jeans look pretty and unexpected when paired with a denim-colored top. Combine a pair of skinny colored jeans, like this cheerful orange pair by Mango, with a soft, chambray shirt for an outfit that’s current and versatile. You can wear this easy look for shopping, weekend outings or out on a date. Dressed up with nice earrings, high heels and a big leather bag, it also makes a great go-to look for casual Fridays at the office, for those of you who work in less conservative fields. Learn more about what shoes to wear with skinny jeans.

The fun part is that the options are nearly endless when creating an all-denim outfit. Fall is my favorite season for fashion and introducing denim easily lends itself to layering.

For Women…Braids, Buns and Beachy Curls…or is it Bitchy Curls???

For men … MAN BUNS… Hipsters are trendsetters!!!

I remember the covers of my Romance Novels …those men were hot! Hair flying in the wind tied back with a piece of leather they had just ripped from their successful hunt! Ok back to reality…

man buns
BUT clip-on MAN BUNS? Is this the answer for male hair loss?

unnamed

They’ve been making fake hair buns marketed to women for years. The difference is practically nil — they’re just marketed to men now. So there you go guys, you can own a finely combed dome of hair to pin atop your messy-but-not-quite-long-enough mane.

I can see clearly now …

eyeglasses 1

Are you a “four-eyed” beauty? Glasses may seem formidable when paired with a glam beauty look, but in fact, you can master the art of makeup and frames.

The biggest challenge is striking a balance: too much makeup can look distorted behind frames, while little makeup gets lost. The elusive harmony is easiest to achieve with lips and eyes: “pick one to be the statement and let the other elements complement that.” Here are five more frame-friendly makeup tips:

1.Glow Giver: Create a really pretty glow on the face to complement glasses. You don’t want your face to be flat and dry when wearing frames – moisturizer makes everything fit better together

2.Cover Up Circles: Glasses immediately draw attention to the eye, so you want to enhance brightness and alertness with a natural concealer

eyeglasses 2

3.Lush Lashes: The lashes need to be perfect. You want them thick and dark, but don’t add to much length or else they’ll hit your lenses

4.For Natural, Defined Brows: This is such an important step when wearing glasses; you need to frame the face and specs with a strong brow

5.Everyday Eye Palette: The slightest touch of shimmery eyeshadow ensures it won’t disappear behind frames

Capsule Wardrobing

Capsule Wardrobe Defined:
A collection of clothes and accessories that includes only items considered essential

Can you survive by having a small collection of 33 including clothing, shoes and accessories built for use during a 3 month period of time?

capsule wardrobe image
The intention of a capsule wardrobe is to have 4 capsules, one for each season, with items overlapping for each. Not each item is essential in terms of survival, but essential in the name of minimalist fashion.

You must become the ultimate mix and match director of your wardrobe. The ultimate goal is to establish a strong foundation that can be supplemented with accessories and seasonal pieces. However, a well-chosen capsule wardrobe can indeed give you a ton of outfit options.

Capsule wardrobe listA quick recap: The idea of building a capsule wardrobe is to curate a small selection of items that form the backbone of your wardrobe. Ideally it should consist of about 20 to 30 key pieces and basics that are tailored to your lifestyle and express the essence of your personal style.

Harness The Power of your Fragrance:

Whether you’re a Francophile or not, you have to admit that French women seem to hold the key to many feminine secrets: how to stay slim on a wine-and-cheese diet, how to look stylish without trying, and how to use fragrance to be even more rapturous. The French have a strong relationship with perfume—for us, it’s just like any other beauty item we must wear every day to feel confident and to express our personality. Evidence shows that fragrance can enhance your mood by reminding you of things you love,
so it may be smart to step up your spritzing.

fragranceFind your “Signature” scent.
When you are a teenager, fragrance becomes glamorous. You associate it with your mother, or your friends’ mothers, and that encourages you to find one that conveys your vibe.

To figure out your scent identity, consider your personality and the vibe you want to exude. Mysterious and sexy? Choose sensual notes of jasmine, amber, or sandalwood. If you’re more the fun and adventurous type, go for fresh florals like peony, violet, or freesia.

How to make the most of your fragrance: smooth on a scented lotion right out of the shower, then spray on the matching perfume after dressing. It extends the longevity of your scent and helps you leave your “trail”—something French women love to do also. We Americans, on the other hand, are stingier with scent and often blow the chance to make an impact. “Having your perfume wafting in the air—even after you’ve left the room—is very seductive. Spray away!!!

Embrace every curve and imperfection…

The Fall Fashion Magazines are FULL of…

The September Isuue of Vogue has an astounding 832 pages. There’s a feature on Beyoncé (without an interview), a sneak peek of Luella Bartley and Katie Hillier’s new line, Kendall Jenner wearing fall’s coolest trends, and hundreds of pages filled with must-have boots, bags, and everything else you need for fall. Yet of these 832 pages, only two aren’t filled with straight size models.

In the middle of the big book, a black and white ad featuring the silhouettes of six full-figured women appears. Wearing just lingerie and high heels, with their faces obscured, the women are (mostly) unidentifiable. The two-page spread simply includes a date—September 14, 2015—a website that has yet to be launched, plusisequal.com, the hashtag PlusIsEqual, and the tagline, “It’s time for change.”

At first glance, it looks like the women of ALDA, a collaborative of models, including Ashley Graham, Marquita Pring, Julie Henderson, Inga Eiriksdottir, and Danielle Redman, who aim to promote body diversity. Bring in Lane Bryant, all signs point to this being part of their fall campaign.

Full figure black and white
The hashtag #PlusIsEqual is very in line with both ALDA and Lane Bryant’s goals. Earlier this year, the brand launched a successful social media campaign with #ImNoAngel. Many of the models mentioned above, appeared in this black and white image.

Yet regardless of who, what, where, when (three weeks, just wait!), and why the ad is in the biggest fashion issue of the year, the sentiment makes a powerful statement between stick-thin models, many say the fashion industry is “horrible and it’s disgusting.”

Plus is most certainly not equal when the only pages of the world’s leading fashion magazines include women above a size 6 (and that’s being generous) had to be paid for. It’s time for more of us to be body activists.

…celebrate the YOU, you woke up with!

When did that Happen???

Last weekend was jammed packed with Family & Friend activities and this upcoming weekend appears to be equally full of similar gatherings and celebrations…
What I want to know is how and when did it happen that I became one of the “OLD” people in the group…

Family Reunions…Baby Reveals…Baby Showers…Weddings…Softball Tournaments~OH MY!!!
baby hand images
I realized that the time has come to admit ~ This Fashionista is starting to show her age! I don’t necessarily feel like it “most” days, but life apparently just places you where you belong without you even realizing it! I should have gotten the hint when I got a New Hip for my 50th Birthday…
grandma was here
SHORT STORY: Baby Shower
Of the 25 people at this lovely, happy gathering I was one of the 5 “GRANDMOTHERS-TO-BE” in the group, there were 4 newborns being breatfeed throughout the celebration and 5 babies “brewing” there I was trying to figure out why the Potty Chair Gift that was just unwrapped played music when said liquid is deposited (I use to sing with my kids and shout with joy when this happened) and when did they create a cup with wings so the baby shampoo didn’t get in their eyes, I just used my hand and…UGH, I have lots to learn!

What I did acknowledge was that Baby Clothing (Girls) are still as cute and perhaps a bit more functional, this particular lucky little Fashionista will have plenty of options in her closet!

EYEBROWS ~

We pluck, We wax, We thread, We sugar, We tatoo, We color, We…

brow blue eye Thinning eyebrows aren’t simply the result of over-plucking. Sometimes, women experience thinning eyebrows as a result of a medical condition or the aging process.
Regardless of its origin, eyebrow thinning can be quite distressing for women. Eyebrows are a major feature of your face and presentation, so it’s important to know how to address the problem effectively.

***DIET:
Hair loss caused by a vitamin deficiency or eczema can be addressed with a healthy diet and targeted vitamins and supplements. Make sure you’re getting plenty of vitamins A, B and D by eating leafy greens, nuts and seeds, fish, eggs and whole grains.

***Alopecia Areata. Alopecia is an autoimmune disease that causes your body to attack your hair follicles, which can include hair on the eyebrow.

***Aging. Unfortunately, the aging process can cause hair loss or thinning over the entire body, including the eyebrows.Brow pictureBEAUTY TIPS:

You can mask the problem with a high-quality eyebrow gel. Unlike eyebrow pencils that can lead to a brow that looks drawn on, an eyebrow gel enhances your eyebrow shape with a soft color and strong hold.

When selecting a tint for your brow remember it should match your hair “root” to achieve the most natural shade.

Family Portraits…

Selfie, Snap Chat, Facetime … How to prepere yourself for just the right angle!

5 Years ago I was asked by a local “very” creative photography to “shoot” me and my 3 daughters for a Mom and Me campaign that she wanted to launch. I agreed, so off to the hair and makeup chairs the 4 of us went. It wasn’t the incredible photos that were captured by Tammy Swales that comes to mind when I reflect on that photo session but the experience of having my first “adult” photo session with my daughters.(the photos are pretty amazing too)

Mom and girls white tops

We all have the Birthday photos, the graduation photos and the all those school pictures. But how many of you have had the pleasure of a photos session with your adult children. Just them, not at their wedding, not at a reunion, just you and them; before the gift of generations are added.trio of my girls

This week my girls and I were asked to be photographed for the cover of a local magazine. Flash Forward 5 years from that previous “family” photo, there was no hair or makeup artists, we were on our own! There was no stylists, so I started with what I wanted to wear and set the color theme from there. By the time the magaine prints, my oldest married daughter will be 6 months pregnant, my middle daughter will be newly married, and my youngest will have started her Junior year at St. Lawrence University!

Fashionable Grandparent “Nonnie” Training :::

It is with great joy that I announce that I am going to be a grandparent for the first time. My “Nonnie” job will begin this November early December. I couldn’t be happier!

Does my wardrobe change as I put on this new “hat”?

Training Challenge #1: I decided to sharpen my “Nonnie” skills by entertaining the challenge of caring for a Panache Team members two children, ages Miss 1 year and Mr. 3 year old, for a sleepover! Good News : We all survived! I came to realize that I didn’t have to have a house FULL of toys or a Kitchen FULL of Food to make things fun and satisfying for all of us during their stay. What I was quickly reminded was that “fashion” isn’t a top priority when rearing toddlers! I don’t recall if I ever even had a chance to change my clothes during their 20 hour visit!

Training Challenge #2: I accepted the opportunity of taking charge of my boyfriends 3 step-granddaughters ages 10 and twin 14 year olds for a day! Girls, now I can do girls, I have three of my own remember! I knew that if I included eating out and shopping that they would be fairly entertained but when we realized Grandpa Fitz wanted to join us he suggested GO-KARTS into the agenda and they loved the idea! It was one of the hottest July “Dog Days of Summer”, fortunately knowing that a swim in a luxurious pool at the end of the day was enough to get us through our sporting, eating and shoppping activities. Again GOOD NEWS: We rarely used technology and we all survivied!

What I will tell you is that Mondays are my day off and I call them “Field Trip Mondays” (I spend the majority of my life standing AKA RETAIL~ comfort is the name of the game on Mondays). I have also been known to refer to them as “Manicure Mondays” or “Medical Mondays”! I knew this particular Monday was going to be FIELD TRIP busy! Dressing for work is very different from dressing for a day full of in and out of the car, walking through the Outlet mall, running with the girls to the public restroom, videotaping them along the go-Kart fenceline, playing lifeguard on a hot summer day ~ but I nailed it, I won’t win any fashion awards with my linen top, cargo khakis or NAOT bedazzled sandals, but I was a fashionable “Nonnie” it was determined! Appropriately dressed, comfortable and ready for the day!

Thank you kids for the opportunity to be in your lives and to have a Perfectly Panache story to share!

Fashion is crazy and Fashion is Crazy about “Cait”

Jenner Vanity

Who sets the fashion trends is always such an interesting topic for me. Is it the movie stars, the designers, or the “HOT TOPIC” at any given moment!
Fashionistas everywhere are watching closely to the almost flawless transition of Bruce into Caitlyn Jenner! She shops at the NYC SOHO SALON of the famous “Sex in the City” Cast and Fashion designers are watching how people are responding to Cait’s style. That must be quite the Personal Shopping experience!

Fashion as a whole is wonderful at celebrating differences. From homosexual designers to androgynous models to transgendered muses, the creative powers that be have always embraced the unexpected. And so, when Vanity Fair introduced the world to Caitlyn Jenner via its July cover, shot by Annie Liebovitz, the industry basically exploded with love.

Fashion is Love and Fashion is in LOVE with Caitlyn. Many feel she has a STAR STYLE TO STEAL! “I AM CAIT” her new show has a strong passionate voice for all LGBT: Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender ~ Cait’s message is simple, she doesn’t have to lie anymore!!!

Honestly, I am more interested in what she wears than the “K” Family !!!

SHOP LATELY?

ONLINE HURTS!!! Not only for our local small businesses but also those who choose to SHOP ONLINE!

Fashionable boomers are wistful for the era of personalized customer service. Remember the days that your favorite boutique would call to say that an item has just arrived and it has your name all over it? Maybe you don’t fall into this category but there is a generation that does remember!

Online buying is a way of life that must be mastered. God knows there is plenty of overstock available!
So you order, your item arrives and it doesn’t fit or the shade isn’t quite right. NOW WHAT?
You have to find the time to return it and if that “return date” expires you own it!!! NOW WHAT?

Last week I had a client bring in 4 beautiful “NEW with Tags” (NWT) dresses that she ordered on-line, didn’t fit and BAM…the return date expired! FYI ~ WE LOVE WHEN THIS HAPPENS at Panache!

While processing this clients consignment items we managed to find her two dresses, we assisted her with “Customer Service” and they were priced under the cost of just one of her “NWT” dresses!

SHOP ONLINE IF YOU MUST but remember the “Little Guy” who still says Hello and offers amazing Customer Service with style & flair!

Wedding season…

The gown is bought and the shoes are choosen…the guest list is in place…etc!!!
So planning a wedding with a Bride who lives 800+ miles away is all consuming!!!
I feel for my daughter, my middle daughter, who lives in Columbus GA with her husband, who is stationed at Fort Benning, ARMY Division. Yes, they had a civil ceremony in GA last year 9/5/14 with only their parents by their side, it was a beautiful memorable day. This year on 9/5/15 their two families will celebrate together in a tradiional ceremony in Rochester.

DETAILS, DETAILS, DETAILS! FYI ~ this is my second daughter to marry in 10 months by the way! To add to this already exciting chapter in my life and that of my daughters, my first born and first to marry last 11/1/14 Elizabeth, just announced with her husband Mike that they are having a baby (my first grandchild) the end of November 2015.

grandma
So let me clue you in, every time my phone rings, or dings it’s either a question about wedding ettiquette or an announcement about the growth of Baby “A” … my phone is very, very busy these days! It’s the most wonderful time in my life!

Two things:
I got married in 1980 at the age of 20, I don’t recall making one decision for my wedding! Thank you Mom!
When I became pregnant in 1985 for my first Baby there was no “APP” to tell me the size “fruit” the Baby was growing in comparison to.

Can’t wait to witness these two moments of LOVE!

Are you too old for certain fashion trends?

Young and trendy clothes may look great on the killer body of a 40-plus woman. After all, Goldie Hawn shines in her trendy outfits even though they look like she raided daughter Kate Hudson’s closet. But should she?

Definitely not, says a number of celebrity wardrobe stylists! Trying too hard only calls attention to yourself – it’s overcompensating. You don’t need to dress like a teenager to look young.

Most of us don’t push the clothes age barrier nearly as far and many trend-setters and Hollywood Glam girls, but even a tasteful fashionista may not always know how to dress appropriately as she moves past 35, 40 and beyond.

How do you know when it’s time to lose which look? Here are a couple suggestions.

Retail Retirement Age:

~Graphic T-Shirts 30
Who needs to advertise a public message across our bustline? Wearing T-shirts can be fun just use your age and wisdom through conversation to make your point not your t-shirt.
t shirt pix
~ Hair Gadgets 30
Whether it’s flowery scrunchies, banana clips or your daughter’s plastic kiddie barrettes, whimsical hair accessories are not fitting for a fully grown woman. “Remember Chrissy from Three’s Company?”
Tortise shell or a hue that matches your hair tone, is a more sophisticated finsih if you must wear a hair accessory. Keep the accessory simple and have a purpose, not be just an adornment!

hair band

~ …and of course, proper bras and underwear. I am in full support of appropriate undergarments and apparel for the aging body. This trend can make you feel special “all under” and look amazing under your age-appropriate adorned body. Do you have “DEAD” bras in your drawer?

bra bad vs good
What factors affect a bra’s lifetime? My typical answer for a bra’s lifetime is 6-9 months. There are a lot of factors that go into this. Some things help bras last longer, and some will kill them faster.
I tell women to have at least 3-5 good basic bras to rotate.

What happened to my vision…When I turned 40, my vision went south too!!!

eyeglasses 2Medical expaination:

Do you have trouble seeing up close? you may have hyperopia. But it could also be presbyopia. Truth be told, they are both similar, but have different causes. As such, they have different treatments as well.

Hyperopia is not inevitable, and it can be treated surgically. Presbyopia is inevitable, and until recently, was not generally treated with surgery. When eyes begin to lose flexibility and are no longer to see crisply and clearly close up, it is time for treatment. Though surgery for presbyopia has become available, the overwhelming majority of sufferers still choose the option of wearing reading glasses. They are safe, they do not require an invasive procedure, and they are stylish. If losing your clear close vision due to presbyopia is a foregone conclusion, you may as well be fashionable when doing so.

Occupational Bifocals and Trifocals, are special multifocal lenses can reduce eye strain and fatigue on tasks at home or at work. Fashionable frames & Lens are fun to wear, know when to invest in your first readers, or consider LASIK! If your choice is not elective surgery here are a few suggestions how to transition into Fashionable Readers. One of my favorite accessories! Your reading glasses can be an extension of your own unique style.

Rochesters Best: Eye Openers ~ Eye2Eye ~ One Hip Chic ~ and multiple Optical locations offer an erray of eye glass and “reader” options.
It has become one of my favorite ways to express and customize my individual look.
Glasses can say a lot about someone’s personality: Sometimes you can judge a person on their frames.(Thick, black lenses = hipster, small wire frames = sweetly nerdy, colored plastic lenses = creative.)
There is something charmingly, unwittingly sexy about someone who takes off their glasses and rubs the bridge of their nose, while thinking, and of course “that” moment when you reach up and take someone’s glasses off. READ ON…

Proper Summertime/ Warm Weather Business Attire

Summer Business Attire for Women 2015 corporate attire So here is a new challenge for us … how we dress ladies? Regardless of profession (sales, waitress, bank officer), the clothes you wear when you go to work must clearly indicate that you are at work, to help you have a professional image, but not to hide your unique personality. Blouses, skirts, hats, bags, sandals are the components and options you have to represent your style, always important to feel comfortable. Choosing an appropriate summer office attire, and to be both comfortable and cool is possible, it can become a real challenge for some however. Be in step with the latest trends and create your individual style trying those that fit your figure, age and work environment. A DRESS is perfect, this summer option of clothing gives you creative freedom and has huge versatility. No need to wear dresses too long or tight, you can opt for at the knee or slightly above in a colorful print, adding metallic accessories. What you will not do, however, to keep it professional: do not wear shoes with extremely high heels. Ballet, kitten heels or platform sandals are a great choice. If you opt for a dress with thin straps, wear a lightweight blazer (short or 3/4 sleeve possibly) which will give you a look consistent with the work environment. Now is the time to add that splash of color! We are girls, bring the right amount of feminine flair with flirty skirts and dress hemlines to a respectful level to the office. I have always told my daughters as they enter the Corporate work environment, to dress for the office not the Runway and to always leave a little mystery to their outfits. No need to “Advertise” like a Billboard with inappropriate plunging necklines or too short hemlines. Too much skin sends the wrong message! …Live Life with Panache!!!

A fashion trend that has been in the backwaters for many many years, is now making a comeback. Those in corporate America have less of a challenge based on industry standards and dress-code expectations.

Summer lovin had me a: Blast from the Past…

Temperatures are rising and so are waistlines on bikini bottoms. A throwback from the 1950s, the high-waisted bikini, is once again rearing it’s ugly head in beaches and pools across the world. While fashionistas may love this retro style, it seems an overwhelming majority of men wished this classic never made a comeback.

bathing suit high waist
From Instagram posts by the girl next door to paparazzi shots of Taylor Swift, the high-waisted bikini is popping up all over the internet. Travel-dating website MissTravel.com, polled men in the U.S. to see exactly how they felt about this vintage style. Results of the poll reveal 80 percent of more than 43,000 respondents hate the trend, with many users saying the style is akin to an adult diaper.

high wasited bathing

Fashion is fun and there is no harm in trying out new styles, but those who are looking for a bit of summer lovin’ might want to avoid this trend!

retro bathing suits

Searching for a new “bathing” suit is different than a “swim” suit! I HATE THE SEARCH! It ranks up there with buying jeans and bras. Just because it’s a “trend” doesn’t mean it suits you and your body shape! As long as the fashion designers don’t reintroduce plastic flower embellished bathing caps with a snap strap I’m ok with high-waisted bathing suits!!!

Most, if not ALL gowns and dresses worn on those famous red carpeted stairs have to be more of a workout!

So my thoughts are what do those mega stars and models do once they take the red carpet stairs? they can’t sit, some designer creations can’t even walk without a Team of 4 carrying the enormous train.

met gala

The now famous late arrival by Beyonce (she only needs one name) has explained to us that every bead needed to be strategically placed, glued, and sewn on to her body hugging mesh!
beyonce met gala
“Kudos” to Sarah Jessica Parker entertaining us with her head adornment, made by the milliner for the Royal Wedding, she took a risk, apparently it’s her style! What fun!
sarah met gala
Bottom line is, these women have fun with fashion, it’s like a Fashion Prom for these stars!

I think the real fashion risks come out at the Met Gala after party when these beautiful Mega Stars let their hair down and slip into more comfortable garb. Sometimes out doing the extreme Red Carpet Stairwell Costumes, allowing their personal style to emerge!

…live every day of your life with Panache!!!

Fringe is in!

For Spring/Summer 2015, we’re no longer on the cusp (or should we say, fringe) of this trend! Designers have taken things to a whole new frontier with fringed dresses, boots, handbags, even formalwear and eveningwear. Yes, the Western trimming has undergone a high-fashion facelift.
fringe handbagSpring/Summer 2015 runway shows have been filled with dresses and skirts spliced into unraveling strands that swished and swooshed with every single step. They adorned more realistic model frames with flash backs to the ’70s with dreamy free-spirited creations with second-skin sheer fabrics and pretty floral appliques. Amid them, suede fringe (some dyed in pastels) took over hemlines, gilets and dresses. A number of designers made Bohemian modern with tiered leather shreds a popular wearable detail and style.

fringe
Fringe in yellows and pinks are playful, and modern in design – it makes one recall the freedom and flamboyance that was reminiscent of 1920s flapper dresses and lifestyle! Most of us will stick to one or two simple fringed items in our wardrobe, enough to sample this slightly reckless free-spirited way of expressing our own personal style.

Bye Bye Puffy Eyes….

Putting “you look tired’ to rest…
You got the rest required, your drank the appropriate number of ounces of water, and you used sunscreen! How did those puffy eyes occur?

eyes cuccumbers
If you awaken to eyes that appear to be carrying a little more luggage than the night before, you could be suffering from puffy morning eyes. This common occurrence can be the result of several contributing factors, including what you eat and how you sleep. Understanding and determining why your undereye area is swollen will help you treat the problem and prevent unwanted bags from mysteriously appearing in your morning mirror. Getting enough sleep not only helps you function better during the day, it also affects the level of inflammation in your body. Without enough rest, the blood vessels under the eyes can become dilated, bringing them closer to the surface and causing the area underneath the eyes to swell and appear purple, blue or even blackish in color.

eyes tea bags
Puffy eye home remedies:
If you have a cucumber on hand they are the perfect size and coolness to place over the eye area, or wet some tea bags and place them in the freezer for 15 minutes, then lie back and apply them to your eyes for 15 minutes.
For a less messy alternative, try putting 2 metal tablespoons in the fridge and use them daily by placing the backs against your eyes.

Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate…

Lucky You, you have a date, now what to wear or what NOT to wear…

dating image

Don’t let your first date attire ruin your chances for a second date. What you wear is the perfect opportunity to present who you are before you say a word.

Stay away from all black
Keep you comfy clothes at home
Don’t try a new trend:

  • Don’t try a new trend or outfit on a first date. Chances are you’ll feel uncomfortable in it and that will make you come off as an uncomfortable to your date. Stick to the outfits that you know!
  • Also, if you’re wearing what makes you comfortable and what is typical of you, your date isn’t going to start expecting you to be dressed a certain way that doesn’t work for you.

DON’T reveal too much:
Don’t be too provocative. Men love skin, but you shouldn’t flash too much of it during a first or second date. If you dress in a very sexy fashion, your date might get the wrong message about who you are and what you want. Stay away from skirts that are too high and blouses that are too low, but don’t dress too conservatively. Strike a happy medium, and avoid an outfit that looks too prudish or too provocative.

“Clothes support the message, but remember they also send a message that can enhance or detract from who you actually are, and what you’re actually saying.“ Most of all, have fun, enjoy this new adventure, and remember that the way you dress announces the way you feel about yourself. Others will see that and treat you accordingly!”

How to wear shoulder pads and get the look, not the bulk

shoulder pads 1

Let’s face it, a broader shoulder makes your hips look smaller and what’s not to love about that?

shoulder pad 2Sharp shouldered jackets, origami draping, extended seaming, and overtly blousey sleeves, there is no stopping the bolder shoulder as a silhouette to add to your wardrobe.
What’s modern about the bold shoulder is that they don’t always have a bulky ‘set in’ shoulder pad, like their 80’s counterpart.

topsThere’s more of a peaked rise to the tip (thank you Balenciaga for never letting this styling trick take a nap) or have a sharp, clean edge rather the bulk of the Dynasty TV show era.
Sometimes, there’s not even a shoulder pad at all.
Look for shoulder embellishments like ruching and ruffles or just a few simple tucks to create the illusion of fullness, rather than the physical shoulder pad itself.

tops 1
The trick to wear the new shoulder pads and shoulder details without looking out of proportion is to stay in balance with your frame. Let the styling of the width of the garment’s shoulder line be in sync with your bone structure. Avoid any look that creates a top heavy, linebacker feel and keep it more of a clean architectural detail.

tops 2
Don’t forget that a strong shoulder creates the need for more room in your next layer, so adding a strong shouldered jacket is easier to work with rather than a blouse that won’t fit under anything else that you own.
Sharp shoulders look modern, fresh, and their expiration date is far from now.

Flabby Arms B Gone

The days of sleeveless weather are finally here. But for those unsure about their right to bare arms (har har), I’ve gathered up three short sleeve looks that conceal a multitude of winter sins—from overdoing it on the weith machine to letting your gym membership gather dust.

1~ Fluttery and Bell-Shaped
Lost in a wave of billowy fabric, your arms will seem slender by comparison. Choose a lightweight material, like chiffon or silk, lest you appear too top heavy.

2~Three-Quarter Length
Considered to be the most universally flattering sleeve silhouette, this conceals problem areas (i.e. above the elbow) while still showing skin (i.e. below the elbow).

3~Wide and Boxy
Much like a bell-shaped sleeve, this is all about proportions, engulfing the arm to make it seem small by comparison.

Take the runway everyday…LIVE life with Panache

Subtle vs. Statement

Silver vs. Gold

Sometimes our jewelry IS our outfit! Worn with simply pieces, the accessories that you choose become the outfit.

Local jewelry designer Reckless Necklace put a little more emotion behind her one-of-a-kind designs, creating her collection of larger statement necklaces from her grandmothers jewelry box.

Always a question do you choose silver or gold?
The ‘hue’ of your outfit should guide you. Our local Color analysts would tell you we each have a given metal that looks best next to our skin tone. Gold, however, is making a comeback after bowing to sterling silver for years.

It is suggested that if you wear one of these larger Statement Necklaces that your earring be a bit less of a statement and don’t need to be “matchy matchy”. It becomes too costume if your earring is as large as the proportions of the necklace.

Apparently this is the time of year in a woman’s life that we think of flipping our hand bag for the upcoming season. I can tell you that because I am selling handbags like crazy!!! I had a woman at Panache Vintage & Finer Consignment purchase a new bag from us and turn her current handbag in for consignment at the same time!!!

Are you RED HOT???

red lipstick

Red lipstick is a universal classic, never goes out of style and can be one of the most powerful weapons in any woman’s beauty arsenal. Yet, many of us assume we can’t wear it.
To the many women who wrongly believe they can’t wear red lipstick, I say you can, indeed, find your perfect shade and you will own it.

Red-Eartha Red lips
The secret to choosing the right red lip color is in knowing your skin tone:

  1. Women with pink skin undertones should opt for a cherry red, with a bit of a blue undertone.
  2. Olive-complected women look great wearing fire-engine red, or a color with an orange base.
  3. Women with darker skin tones look dynamic with deep rich red tones.

Red-Audrey red lips

When wearing red lipstick, avoid:

  1. Deep reds if you have thin lips since they tend to make lips look smaller.
  2. Overplaying your eyes. For the look of Old Hollywood Glamour, pair red lipstick with the lightest possible eye makeup. A little mascara and soft beige tone shadow work beautifully.
  3. Applying it casually. It may take a bit of practice to use precision, but it’s worth the time.
  4. Leaving red lipstick on your teeth. After application, be sure to blot lips.

Try to match your lip liner shade exactly to your lipstick, or use a darker, more complimentary tone. A lip pencil creates a more defined edge and gives it, and the corners of your mouth, more depth.

Christina Red Lipstick

It’s that time of the year for a little punch of color…BRING ON SPRING…live life a little, make a splash!!!

…always live life with Panache!!!

February always attracts a number of Fashion Experiences… There is always Fashion Week NYC and there is always The Oscars. Both offering plenty of Fashion to digest, strive for and talk about. Rochester offered one of the most magnificent Fashion experiences that I have attended in a long time. I am not one for Formal or Gala style celebrations, I’m usually dressing those attending such luxurious events. However, as part of the Rochester Women Magazine Team I attended The Policeman’s Ball…let me tell you the hair stylists, nail technicians, spray tanning businesses and Boutiques must have been crazy busy! Rochester was sparkling, swaying, and 800+ in attendance were embracing those men and women who put their life on the line every day for our safety and protection! policemans ball My new Hero Amy Pierson wore the perfect shade of Blue in memory of her Husband Daryl. She took the podium with grace, compassion and beauty, accepting an award of great bravery for her husband! I wore my favorite shade of black but there was a rainbow of delightful color almost like the tulip fields in Holland, it was an overall delightful evening full of Fashion oohs and aaahs, and a few ooops too! amy policemans ball Speaking of ooops, let’s talk Oscars, “Best Dressed” goes to J Lo but wasn’t there another woman wearing the same dress in a different shade? Can you imagine! FYI~who cares what Lady GaGa wore ~ the girl can sing!!! I had no idea her depth of range, I am a new fan! lady Gaga …take the runway every day with Panache! FF Divider

Hemlines, however, are down to the ankle or just above, so it’s the maxi skirt with a sometimes thigh high slit!!! The slit skirt has shown up in countless collections in every fabric imaginable from suiting wools to silk.

So where does this leave us? Still battling single digit temperatures???

They (You know the people who know everything) say it’s a sultry look and a mature confident one, not for the boardroom, courtroom or classroom perhaps, but certainly for after hours!
So we may not live on the Red Carpet, but we do watch who wears what! Thank you Angelina Jolie and Jennifer Lopez, without your perfectly toned, bronzed, high-heeled legs lunging out of your bedazzled designer gowns, we may never have known how high a slit can be!

It’s the Holiday Season…we know its coming ~ NO SURPRISES!!!

So how do you break tradition and not loose your family and tradition in the process?
Who travels ALL THE TIME?
Who has the PARTY ALL THE TIME?
At which point do you begin your own/new family traditions?
Being in Retail for my entire working career, has not allowed for a lot of “down time” around the holiday season.
ProcessChange-386x580
Then throw in a dash of a divorce and then the end of a very long relationship, let’s just say it has been a bit NON-TRADITIONAL and a wee bit complicated. My family has been very patient with my ever changing Holiday Celebration Style.
So now as my children get older (I don’t) just them, they marry, move out of the area (Sad Face), travel~ I have been left to reinvent a few Holiday Traditions. Fortunately, I have a HUGE new Family to enjoy with my new Sweetheart.

The challenge is: How to announce to my Family that the time has come to begin “Our” Holiday Tradition in our “Home” and not have to travel for hours in bad weather every Holiday ~ And keep the Peace?

Fashionably Late…How late is OK?

Holiday Ettiquete: 3 Things to remember:

1. If you are attending a house party please remember, arriving empty handed is not usually a good idea. Being Italian, I was raised to always bring something, I usually offer a bottle of wine from a NY Winery such as Swedish Hill or Goose Watch from the Cayuga Lake area. Since I was raised in the Finger Lakes, it’s always been a good ice breaker “Home is where your story begins” conversation.

Red Dori Pix Outfit

2. The fashionably late statement drives me crazy!
  • Evaluate the event. Do you have any kind of specific role in it? If so, it’s not a good one to be late for. Likewise, you don’t want to establish a chronic pattern of lateness, which could be very unfashionable. Being fashionably late means being precise about which events you can show up late to without hampering the event in any way.
  • Choose a reasonable time to arrive. Three hours after everyone else? Not fashionable. A half hour is usually good.

Stripped-Black-and-White-Kitten-Heel-Shoes_jpg_cfI have taught my daughter’s the gift of punctuality, I recommend you show up closer to the party start time versus the end time. Be respectful or at least notify with an appropriate RSVP that you will be arriving late.

men and women shopping

ORGANIZED SHOPPER:
The very clear headed, know-it-all when it comes to what he/she needs. The priority of products they want to buy is held high in their minds and they go about getting things that are probably important first. A systematic approach to the wardrobe and healthy on the pockets too.

CONFUSED SHOPPER:
The people who never seem to make up their mind as to what they want. They have difficulty in choosing between two of the same products or two different products. They take their own sweet time in judging and choosing.
BUDGET SHOPPER:
Almost everything seems to have a budget for them. I am a fan of Shop Green ~ Shop RESALE ~ Shop Small Business. This would be a category shopper I can relate to!

The differences between How Men Shop vs. how Women Shop:

male female shoppers

Could it all be based on scientific fact? Simply put because the women and children were the gatherers taking time to search for fruit, grains and vegetables vs. Men “the Hunters” who stategized, selected their kill and brought it home to feast.

Is this same approach true in modern times when women are more likingly to take their time to research a sale, texture and quality of a garment vs. men who go directly in for what their needs are. It is general behavior of men to shop alone. They do no care about the sale items. They do not spend a lot of time on price comparison. For men shopping is just achieving a goal or a mission.

Women often shop in groups of three or four to maximize the social aspects of shopping. Men want to zero in on the product, check out quickly and leave the store as soon as possible. Women spend more time lingering, comparative pricing and enjoying the consumer experience. Also, men don’t seek assistance from sales personnel or use shopping lists as often as women.

Find your shopping style, and Shop til you Drop!!!

I’ve noticed lately that as I age my brows seem to be fading!!! I hear that every day it seems.

Ways to combat thinning brows:

Sleep on your back! this is great for facial wrinkles as well. No more crushed corners of your lashes, crow’s feet wrinkles around the eyes and wear and tear on those delicate ends of your brow hair.

Fight the lightening of the Brow hair:

Color it, tatto it, or pencil it. Each process has it’s pora and cons. Make sure the Salon you choose has a trained technician for these treatments.

Brow picture

Brow Shape:

To wax, sugar or thread is the question. So many women over tweeze leaving less hair and less definition!

A strong brow allows for definition and a younger look!

Can YOUR Mascara survive this back to school week?…and Wedding Season???

To Waterproof or not is the question???

The Lure of the Luscious Lash

Mascara history extends back to the ancient Egyptian era. Early mascaras often took the form of pressed cakes, and later became available in lotion forms that came in tubes. It wasn’t until the 60’s that the mascara applicator brushes we use today were invented. Even with questionable ingredients and early mascara mishaps, the lure of long, sexy lashes has proven to be as irresistible in the past as it is today.

Lash Extensions…make sure it’s a trained professional! This procedure is time consuming and expensive but with the correct application can be a real treat for a long period of time. If applied correctly can be enjoyed for up to a month. Wedding season is in full swing in Upstate NY, and most of my Brides enjoy the application of false eyelashes.

False Lashes: Individual or flares or strips…what’s your desire!!!

Waterproof is a great option for those of us who tear up easily. Perhaps allergy season or physical activity brings on extra moisture. WP mascara just demands a eye makeup remover with an oil base ingredient.

Whatever product you choose: a little goes a long way so coat, wiggle, and sweep away for a luxurious full lash line.

Fashionable Social Skills, Communication with Style & Flair

Etiquette is a code of behavior that delineates expectations for social behavior according to contemporary conventional norms within a society, social class, or group.

Manners The way in which something is done; style, method.

For nearly a century, one name has been trusted above all others when it comes to proper decorum: Emily Post. Daughter of a wealthy architect, Emily Price Post wrote her Etiquette to try to bring common sense and flexibility to good manners. She published ten editions of her book and for many years also wrote a syndicated newspaper column and for a time also hosted a radio program. We, yes society in general, should re-read her Manual.

Now available is a completely updated 18th Edition of the classic Emily Post’s Etiquette, the mantle is picked up by the great-great-grandchildren of the First Lady of Etiquette, who tackle the latest issues and demands of the twenty-first century—from texting and tweeting to iPhones, Facebook, and all forms of social media. The perfect guide for Millennials living on their own for the first time who wish to establish themselves properly in the workplace—as well as for Baby Boomers in the midst of planning their children’s weddings, entering retirement, and helping to care for elderly parents—Emily Post’s Etiquette, 18th Edition, remains the essential handbook to proper social behavior.

Ahead of the Curve…Wedding Season in FULL BLOOM in Rochester!!!
Wedding Dress Attire for the “Mothers of the Wedding”

What’s appropriate?
Let the Bride be the Bride!
This is the Brides time to shine…not the Mother’s Runway!!!

Over the years I have had the supreme pleasure of assisting hundreds of Mother’s of the Wedding select their attire for such a special celebration. Many Mother’s of the Bride (MOB) and Mother’s of the Groom (MOG) request not to look like “A typical mother of a Bride or Groom” and this concerns me! What does that really mean? No Belero jacket? No sequin? Too much cleavage, is what it usually ends up meaning. Body hugging dresses that sometimes are inappropriate and more like a Prom Gown or Gala Formal Gown, than a MOB & MOG garment.

MOB dress
Many MOG & MOB decide this is when they are going to go on this extreme weight loss program. My opinion is they shouldn’t have waited so long. Now the dress hunting depends on the success of the “diet” and the order window for some formal designer houses sometimes ( most times) don’t coincide with the “weight loss program” window. Now they are rushing and settling and ordering multiple dresses for “options”, and the just in case scenario.

Large size model

I have decided to have a local designer make my MOB dress and I am at the point where my figure has been better and it’s bound to get worse. So I am going for the “Right Now” size. My style generally falls into the following two categories: comfortable and appropriate!

Jumpsuits mean business!

There are different styles for Weekend to Evening to Weekend…and for every body type.

jumpsuit 2

This is NOT your mechanics jumpsuit. Just a flirty feminine way to create that long illusion, have a softly cinched waist and wear just one garment (or two) versus multiple pieces to create your look.

jumpsuit 3

THE “ALL in One” is a wardrobe staple. One challenge is that when shopping for this garment there is no hanger appeal. But this iconic garment has gone from trend to staple item in you wardrobe.

jumpsuit 1

Shoes will play a huge part in creating a formal or very “NOW” look while wearing your jumpsuit! Have a little fun add that jumpsuit or even overalls to you fall collection! Live life with Panache!!!

Japanese think it’s all the rage! Earplugs… not the kind construction works use to deafen the sound of a jackhammer!

men and women shopping

Overalls — they’re having a moment.

Sarah Jessica Parker donned them on The Ellen DeGeneres show. Mad Men’s Elisabeth Moss rocked them on the cover of New York Magazine. Here’s how you can get this wear-everywhere look. Overall shorts The look: The always stylish Blair Eadie of Atlantic-Pacific keeps things casual by layering a baseball tee under her overalls. Red suede stilettos lend an added pop of color that makes this look an instant home run. Hello 1978: I was selected as “Best Dressed” for my senior class Yearbook superlatives honor. To mock the style & flair of the late 70’s I wore overalls for my photo! One imagines that the coolness of bib overalls – also known as dungarees – comes from their work wear origins. There’s a relaxed, down-to-earth mood associated with someone who is as far away from white-collar, tie-wearing worker as you can get. Overalls are grubby, hands-on, no airs and graces sort of fare; a uniform for the mechanic and the street-smart youth alike. overalls From denim overalls in the 1970s to the dungaree revival of the 1990s, the garment has also been a cyclical trend. Overalls and overall shorts a fun vintage way to recall a trend not necessarily a fashion statement. Enjoy the comfort of this hottest fashion returning favorite this season! FF Divider

Feel like you’re sailing away into the summer!

Nautical is one of the easiest trends to pull off. Navy + White. Keep it crisp, keep it simple. When it comes to accessories, think stripes and ropes. It’s all about setting sail. Nautical fashion is a classic theme that pops up every summer. Channel your inner mariner, then freshen up your warm-weather style with a few splashes of “Anchor Away” style. Who wears it best: Be careful because the stripe is suitable for slim silhouettes. But you can always add a nautical accessory. For women with big bust, the top should be with a V neck in order to give some space between the neck and the chest. Accessories can be the “outfit” when taking on the nautical theme. Accessories making waves this season with tricolor touches, striped sensations, as well as anchor, rope, and seahorse inspired pieces. Stroll on the beach or lounge on the poolside with summer scarves and floppy hats that make a splash. Nautical: My favorite thing about nautical fashions is that every few years they become a major trend. So whatever you invest in will likely stand the test of time. Plus stripes rarely go out of style. One word of warning nautical accessories are adorable and fun, but don’t go overboard lest you look like an actual captain of a boat. nautical 1nautical 2nautical 3

Kaftan? Newest Fashion Trend for the Summer

Not your Mama’s Moo-Moo! A caftan, sometimes spelled “kaftan,” is a long, loose garment with long sleeves, resembling a robe. Fabrics range from lightweight textiles for the summer months to richer velvets and brocades. Traditionally made with silk or cotton, caftans are frequently adorned with colorful patterns, and many individuals wear them with a coordinating belt or sash. Bright ~Happy ~Silky ~Romantic. In Moroccan Culture the young women wear a long robe like outfit called Moroccan caftan. This long garment is usually worn for festivals especially weddings. These incredible garments are frequently luxuriously beautified with weaving, beading or sequins. While many consider the caftan to be timeless, it experienced a surge of popularity in the West during the 1970s and has made appearances on fashion pages in recent years. The caftan can be a versatile addition to any wardrobe. It can be worn on the beach as an eye-catching cover-up, belted and paired with heels for a dinner out, over leggings and sandals for a day of sightseeing, or worn at home as a dramatic and unusual garment for the hostess of a soiree. It’s all the rage…Unusual, Happy, not BODY HUGGING, leaves a little to the imagination!!! Change the look through this tutorial.

The Art of Flirtation

Is it Fashionable to Flirt?

flirting-signs (2) Flirting is fun! It boosts your self esteem and makes you feel good. Whether you flirt just for fun or for a relationship. I think most relationships and even marriages need to keep it fresh with a little reckless flirtation. Remember : Winking? You can wink at someone from across the room, or wink at someone during a conversation. If he or she says something funny, or someone else does something silly, you can give a wink as a way of sharing a little moment for just the two of you, as if the two of you are in on some private joke no one else is aware of. Holding Eye Contact? While you are conversing with your new friend, you want to be sure to have eye contact at least some of the time. At least once it’s a good idea to hold the eye contact a little “too long,” just a fraction too long, so there’s a brief, more intimate moment between you. Getting caught looking? Most people look away when the object of their desire looks at them. If you want to let that person know you are interested, when they catch you looking, smile, hold eye contact a moment longer, then look away. It’s only natural… so enjoy the Art of Attraction!! In your light I learn how to love. In your beauty, how to make poems. You dance inside my chest, where no one sees you, but sometimes I do, and that sight becomes this art. What To Wear To A WEDDING

IT IS THE SEASON! Read your invitations carefully. Research the wedding venue. Wedding attire usually breaks down into 3 categories: formalblacktiewedding590Black Tie / Formal: Red carpet worthy formal cocktail or “Live it Up” long voluptuous Gown. Few times in our lives do we have the opportunity to Glam it Up, never out do the Bride but I think it’s a compliment when guests put the extra effort into regal, elegant wedding attire. Glitz & Glam opportunity! Semi-Formal: Majority of weddings fall into this style of Wedding attire. Here is where the LBD (little black dress) comes in handy! Trending is floral, styles and fabrics with movement that offer a more romantic flirty feel to womens dresses. Your final look when attending this style of wedding never look under dressed! Casual: Backyard, Barn and Park. Think breathable fabrics and sensible footwear. Not the time to wear the body hugging dress or the “sit and be served” 4 inch heels. Cotton, floral and sundress is a perfect approach to this style wedding. FF Divider

Average woman has 5 handbags in her immediate collection. I have carried the same black handbag for almost 2 years. OK, its a CHANEL, but it’s as plain as the day is long and it works for me. I can carry every essential item I feel necessary to get through my day and a few items “just in case” It’s not SO big that I feel like it’s a suitcase and it’s not so small that if I grab a magazine or carry my IPAD it’s spilling out all over. I have found that many woman change their handbag 3 to 4 times a year. Coordinating their handbag with their outfits, in my opinion, is a dying fashion statement and is owned by a certain generation of a certain age. Many women are investing more in handbags and using them for a longer period of time. I recently invested in the Abigail Riggs VOA Handbag “Mrs. Ballington Booth” which gave me great pride knowing that part of my investment was going to a great cause. Abigail Riggs is an altruistic handbag company whose signature Purse With A Purpose collection features handbags designed to honor significant women in history.

Shortly after, in 1928, Disney introduced its cartoon darling Minnie Mouse wearing a red polka dot dress and matching bow. Throughout the 1930s, polka dot dresses appeared in stores, the fabric suddenly subversive, nipped in by ribbons and accentuated with bows. In 1940, the woozy melody of Frank Sinatra’s ballad “Polka Dots and Moonbeams” captured the height of America’s polka dot mania—that spring, the Los Angeles Times assured its readers, “You can sign your fashion life away on the polka-dotted line, and you’ll never regret it.” Later in the decade, the polka dot accrued a highbrow style currency when Christian Dior released his “New Look” collection of hourglass dresses, many styles bedecked with dots. After a wartime period of shifting gender roles, Dior told Vogue that his collection sought “to make women extravagantly, romantically, eyelash-battingly female” again. (Dior: not a fan of the polka dots on Rosie the Riveter’s headband.) Hollywood followed feminine suit, and the newly-ladylike print fast became popular with actresses: Elizabeth Taylor, Lucille Ball, and Marilyn Monroe were some of the polka dot’s chief exponents. yellow polka dotsIn 1951, Monroe was famously photographed wearing a polka dot bikini. Nine years later, the release of Brian Hyland’s hit song, “Itsy Bitsy Teenie Weenie Yellow Polka Dot Bikini,” brought polka dots back into vogue. Throughout the ‘60s, the artist–and walking medley of polka dots–Yayoi Kusama became known for the busy dotted swarms that covered her paintings. “Our earth is only one polka dot among millions of others,” she once said. Kusama also believed–before she checked herself into a mental hospital in 2006–that when painted with polka dots, the body became “part of the unity of the universe.” Now released, the artist still sports the print.” Get your “HAPPY” on with the injection of this playful print!!! miniskirt signMiniskirts ~ A Fashion Statement Comeback

Hemlines are rising and that makes certain admirers very happy!!! They are mod, flirty, kicky, sporty and even formal. Minis have come and gone and come and gone again since their introduction in the 1960’s. Designers love to switch directions in their pursuit for something new. So here we go again, the great thing about Fashion is that season after season we can expect one thing and the next season it can be a contradiction!!! miniskirtMiniskirts are NOT for Everybody or every environment::: Most buyers are a bit cautious and are watching the buyers trend before jumping on board. MOST skirts are being offered in just below or just above the knee. Office Warning…if you can sit in your office chair and get up out of it without adjusting your skirt, then you are good to go. but if your skirt hikes up and rides up the body its time to consider a different size. Introduce yourself to a leg makeup or self tanner. Because there will be an abundance of additional skin revealed if you choose this miniskirt Fashion trend. Footwear can make or break the Miniskirt look…too high heeled can send the “lady-of-the-evening” message, chunky heel, ankle boot or kitten-heels are suggested complimentary footwear options. These days fashion is all about choice. There are so many choices: mini, midi, and maxi!!! No hemline is obligatory!!! FF Divider

Your Makeup is only as good as your skin:::

Beauty Buzz… Skipping a few hours of sleep, forgetting to wash your face before bed, not apply sunscreen everyday all seem so innocent right? But odds are, at least one of these habits in your daily routine are the cause of those dreadful breakouts, crow’s feet and flakey or discolored skin. Fortunately, the fixes are simple! By nixing these everyday habits you can take years off your complexion, and leave skin protected, balanced and refreshed: #1 Forgetting Sunscreen…I know, I know…you have heard it all before, but if you Play & Work outside, then be smart and add 30 SPF to your daily program!!! Fashion blonde woman portrait, isolated #2 Applying Makeup with Dirty Brushes. This may seem innocent, but applying makeup with the same brush month after month causes dirt and bacteria to buildup which can lead to breakouts. It’s important you wash brushes every two to three weeks. An easy DIY quick fix is to mix a couple of drops of gentle facial cleanser or shampoo with lukewarm water in a cup. Then swish your brushes around, rinse with lukewarm water, pat dry, and lay flat on a clean towel to air dry. black-woman-with-short-hair-smiling-next-to-man-shutterstock-PF #3 Not Cleansing Daily. Going to bed without washing your face is one of the biggest skin care no-no’s. Leaving makeup and dirt on skin doesn’t just clog pores and cause breakouts, it can also lead to excessive dryness and even skin dandruff. To clear out the gunk without drying out skin, opt for a soap-free cleanser! Facial-skin-care-after-40-years … and get a facial at least 4 times a year!!! YOU WILL THANK ME!!! FF Divider

BYE BYE WINTER DRY SKIN… HELLO VIBRANT REJUVENATED SKIN! SPRING CLEANING APPOINTMENTS TO DO LIST:

So I called my Landscape & Yard Cleanup Co. for my Spring cleaning THEN I called and booked my appointment for my SPRING CLEANING on my FACE!!! It’s my new approach to personal maintenance. I realized I sometimes take better care of the appearance my house and lawn than my FACE!!! My approach for this “SPRING CLEANUP” was for a more medicinal maintenance, so I did a little research and it was recommended that VEGA MEDSPA was a good place for me to consider for this treatment. I booked a consultation, met with the Nurses and Skincare professionals and explained what I wanted and where my limitations are regarding invasive treatments, then they made their recommendations. The SPA environment was pleasant and unassuming. A bit more private and personal then other locations I have experienced. My 90 Minute luxurious and educational skincare session is booked: 1. Facial for simple renewal and rejuvenation 2. Removal of sun damaged spots and skin tags 3. Age appropriate and age defense procedures to help redefine radiance…multilevel skin resurfacing systems and treatments. Keep you posted on how both cleanups go!!! FF Divider

The past few years sky high heels have dominated the runways and street style, but when I look around the streets, the only people wearing sky high heels are, well… young girls who haven’t been educated on the damaging effects of this fashion trend. Wobbling on the cobblestones and uneven pavement just isn’t a look or risk I am willing to take anymore.. I mean, I know that wearing a three inch maybe a four inch heel around, has it’s fashion-look benefits, but everyday? Just not feeling them anymore. Shulogique It used to be that flats were just ugly frumpy shoes, but these days I’m seeing a lot more that are both comfortable and sensible , and they aren’t just ballet flats either. Nice ankle boots, cut out brogues, and fashion forward clogs. The possibilities seem endless, and to be honest, it makes for a good excuse to take a nice walk anywhere. If the Shoe Fits… Glitter Louboutin Some shoes are what I call “Sit and be Served” like the ever popular Red Sole Christian Louboutin. However, most of us living a real life have to consider wearing footwear that is a bit less fashionable and a bit more sensible. 123 Shoes offers the most comfortable foot friendly selection in Rochester. But, there is a new kid on the block called: Shulogique – style that fits Shoe-ologists are trained to assist their clients to achieve the best fit in a beautiful high heel.

Many women have to have the newest trends, even if it doesn’t work on them!!! Owning so many items is expensive and takes LOTS AND LOTS of time to apply in the right order. I have given hundreds of women makeup lesson and always recommend that their makeup take no longer than 7 minutes per application. More is less and fewer products with the right tools will expedite the application process. MIRROR TIME:::It’s expensive to be a woman How many minutes does the average woman spend applying her makeup? 3hours,19 minutes a week…17 minutes per application How many products does the average woman use everyday for a day “LOOK”? Women use 4 – 5 on average, FYI men use 1. These means BIG money for women since the Makeup and skincare Industry typically charges more for women’s products than similar products for men. How To Dress to Appear Taller… Those wishing to adopt the fashionable illusion of a thinner frame and increased height can use clothing to pull off the trick. When you are short, figuring out what to wear can be pretty difficult – especially if you want to make yourself look a bit taller than you really are. The most important thing for you to keep in mind is that it is possible for you to make yourself look taller than you really are, according to the way that you dress.how-to-look-taller-using-a-column-of-colour-how-to-look-taller-monochromatic-dressing-L-qVeSyu For vertically-challenged men and women, the desire to look tall may seem like an unreachable dream. While you may not be able to change the stature that nature gave you, the right clothes and accessories can actually help you appear taller than you are. Also knowing what NOT-TO-WEAR is as important! What to wear & What NOT to wear: Avoid thick, bulky fabrics or baggy clothing that hangs off the body, which can cause a person to look heavier and shorter. Vertical patterns, solid colors, and snug fits are among the many garment details that can create the illusion of height. However, the slimming and height-increasing fashion techniques that work for one person may not work for all. Monochrome dressing, choosing outfits in the same color, will make you appear taller and elongate your look. Elevator Shoes are not going to make you grow taller, they are similar to high heels, but the heels are hidden and much comfortable. Many men have chosen this footwear option to appear 2 – 5.5 inches taller. Posture, hairstyle and body-weight are additional factors to acknowledge when dressing to appear taller than your gifted stature. How to appear taller in photographs: The first point to keep in mind is to stay away from the center where you will look the shortest. The simple rule to follow is that those objects and people that are nearer to the camera seem to appear larger though it may not be real. So always try to be in the front row while getting clicked. If you want to be taller than people in the same row, be two to four inches closer to camera than them. You can change the way you look, actually appear taller and thinner, if you alter how you present yourself and what you wear. Make the right fashion choices and you’ll be amazed at how people perceive you FF Divider

HOW TO SQUEEZE FASHION INTO YOUR LUGGAGE

It’s Winter and Spring Break Vacation Holiday time. If you’re lucky enough to be getting out of this wicked winter we are experiencing, educate yourself and your family on: How to pack a suitcase for your Holiday destination. The goal when packing a suitcase is to fit as much as possible into a small space. Being able to pack efficiently is an especially important skill in this day and age. So you drive, fly, maybe even cruise…but are you prepared to pack your luggage for that holiday destination? First: check the weather of your final destination. Last week I packed a small carry on luggage, so when I returned to Rochester after driving my daughter down to Columbus,Georgia to begin a new chapter and new career, I could just “CARRY-ON” with no hassle my small piece of luggage for my flight back to Rochester. What I didn’t pack or plan for was to be stranded in Atlanta, Georgia for 4 additional days 2 of which had a NO TRAVEL ADVISORY!!! You know what that means, especially in an EPIC ICE STORM IN ATLANTA GEORGIA? = NO SHOPPING!!! You know the rule, no more than 50 lbs and NO Liquids over 3 oz. I followed all the rules. Four days stranded in Atlanta and 5 canceled flights, puts frustration on any traveler and her wardrobe. Fortunately, most of what I packed was lightweight, could be layered and for the most part could be coordinated to mix and match. I packed with great determination and started the bottom layer of my suitcase with footwear and outerwear, then rolling my denim and heavier items, followed by many cami and tops, I squeezed the air out of my suitcase..BELIEVE ME!!! Ladies, our most precious makeup and toiletries are always a concern when flying so make sure you follow the rules. I continue to promote the Trish McEvoy Makeup Cosmetic bag system and placed my precious makeup in the middle of the luggage padded with clothing so I didn’t have to worry having it damaged. Knowing how to pack a suitcase is essential to being a good traveler, it truly is like a puzzle. Also, get the process started early so that substitutions can be made and coordinate with layers so that when cooler and warmer weather occurs you are prepared for what may come your ways. Happy Travels! FF Divider

It’s Sweater Season!!! Snuggletime!!! Sweater Sticker Shock~ Why LUXURY clothing costs more… The Story behind the $$$$$ Price Tag

sweaterDesigners’ Collections are full of lush, chuncky sweaters this season. While they look basic, designers say these sweaters reflect high levels of workmanship. Price is determined on the designers retail status. Stella McCartney, yes Paul’s Daughter, prides herself and her sweater collection made from South African Wool in the Venetto region of Italy. Ms. McCartney vets wool suppliers for humane animal-husbandry practices and sustainable farming methods. Designer items are not mass-produced and should be of extraordinary quality. Labor standards play a big role in price. Most designer sweaters are made in Italy or Scotland, where workers are protected by labor laws. Designers produce smaller quantities and can’t qualify for discounts available to mass producers. The prices of designers basics such as sweaters and coats are rising at an alarming rate, some say by 50% since the 2007-08 financial crisis- and are likely to keep rising. Department stores offer Luxury, Contemporary, and then lower priced tiers so that every client, no matter their pocketbook, can afford to keep warm on some level this season. Now you can really have the best… SHOP with PANACHE Rochester’s Premier LUXURY Womens RESALE Boutique! FF Divider

The Changing Face of 50

New surveys show that 50 is the new 30

  • With the growing number of minimally invasive and non-surgical options, we are able to maintain our youthful appearance for longer
  • Women are more open than ever to both surgical and non-surgical treatments to slow down the visible signs of aging
  • Facial Peels is a common favorite.

FWR 2012 Blynn Me and MegWhen it comes to reversing the hands of time most women demand a natural result – not the wind tunnel, pulled look of previous generations. We simply want to be the best, most youthful and attractive version of ourselves that we can be, without looking too different. In our youth-obsessed culture, a woman’s next birthday is not always a cause for celebration. Ladies don’t need to be anxious about hitting that half-century mark anymore. The general consensus is that 50 is more like the new 30! Sounds cliche, I know, however: on average, 69% of women age 45-60, reported feeling at least six years younger that their chronological age. Women in their fifties still feel sexy, vibrant, beautiful and desirable. Fifty is a special number, lucky for we women in this age bracket, we can now be empowered by a society that is aging backwards! Today, women in their 40’s and 50’s are more confident and beautiful than ever before. These ladies have the life experience and knowledge to look as great as they feel…live life with style & flair…Panache!!! FF Divider

Winter Crush!!!

Is that luxurious fiber ~ VELVET~ only for the Holiday Season?velvet- red fashion-trend

There are many theories on where Velvet originated from. But most people agree that it originated somewhere in the far east. Was carried along the legendary Silk route by Arabs to Europe. Velvet reached Italy and made fortunes for the cities of Lucca, Sicily, Florence as they had the largest production of velvet from the 12th – 18th century. They supplied to the rest of Europe. Velvet was used in everything rich, from horse carriages to furniture, clothes, and upholstery One of the richest fabrics known to man, velvet is today more in fashion than ever. Couturiers and street designers favor its softness and luster, but it has been famed throughout the ages for sumptuous elegance. Velvet has always reminded me of children’s clothes, those cute, tiny, shiny frocks. But this season , velvet is making an appearance on the red carpet, on fashion ramps, at parties and just about everywhere. Velvet’s opulence is only matched by its versatility. An ostentatious fabric, is often confused by some with terry cloth and its sister looping fabric corduroy. The difference between velvet and these other fabrics is that for velvet, the loops are cut, forming a soft textured surface over the entire surface of the fabric. Terry cloth has loops that aren’t cut, and corduroy has cut loops that appear in rows rather than across the entire surface. Many Designers have treated us to the plush revival of velvet – and after waiting all summer, it’s finally cold enough to break out the luxed-up fabric. The only problem? Velvet can be a tricky material to wear. Incredibly chic when done right, velvet also has the potential to look dated and costume-y when done wrong. So, before you take the rich trend out for a spin, check out a few dos and don’ts: ~ Keep accessories simple ~ Hair and Makeup should be more understated As the holiday season rapidly approaches, it’s time to start planning what to wear for your upcoming festivities. Take this opportunity to incorporate a splash of velvet into your wardrobe. Forget your assumption that it’s tacky and out of style. But don’t go overboard; wear a pair of black velvet jeans with a t-shirt and blazer, or sport a velvet cocktail dress alone with opaque tights and killer heels. Not only is velvet warm, weather friendly, and comfortable, it’s also perfect for any holiday party dressing. A simple velvet dress creates the perfect look for those fancy holiday soirees. Not the type to go to a fancy holiday party? Throw on leggings and a velvet tank and you will still look perfectly festive. Many feel that velvet is too formal for an office environment. If you find yourself in a traditional corporate culture, then implement velvet in a very subtle simple way. Use this luxurious fabric as an accessories rather than the main component of your outfit. The traditional velvet jacket has always been an acceptable staple in many closets. Just remember to keep it simple and don’t over accessorize the look. Years ago the introduction of burnout velvet was introduced to the fashion industry. The trendy took over and now most of can say we have at least one burnout garment item in our closet. This fabric is a subtle way to wear our velvet any time of the year! There’s something about velvet fashion trends in 2013 that just screams winter time elegance, and now when velvet makes for one of the most sophisticated 2013 fashion trends, it’s high time to seize the moment and make the absolute best of it! It’s not just for the Holiday Season anymore!!! FF Divider
