Here is the email Tony received.
Hi Tony, every morning for years, I have listened to your show on my way to work and am always touched by your every day hero story. There is good out there!!!
I wanted to share with you one of my every day hero “pairs”. Their names are Tim and Denise Wesley and they live here in Webster.
In April 2012, at the age of 40, Tim was told he an inoperable cancer and that he had about 12-14 months to live. The first week after being told was a blur and they started to put their things “into order”. But then something happened, they decide they were going to fight this and they were going to win, regardless of what their doctor said, they were going to be their own advocates. After hundreds of hours of research, they found 3 doctors that would operate on the type of cancer Tim had. Upon meeting them, they focused on 1 doctor, Dr. Sardi from Mercy Medical in Baltimore Maryland. Tim went through a 10 hour surgery, where they literally remove and “cleaned” every organ from his main body cavity, and removing those that were too full of the cancer. After that, they infused a hot chemotherapy solution into his body cavity for 90 minutes allowing it to clean any remaining cancer cells. A surgery many of us would not have survived.
Here is where the hero part comes in. Literally hours after Tim woke, he and Denise agreed that no one who had this type of cancer should have to go through this alone. Soon after, Be uninTIMidated, a nonprofit organization, was created. The sole purpose of the organization is to help raise funds for rare cancer research, mainly supporting Dr. Sardi’s research, and supporting families that have these rare cancers find the right types of treatments. It has become their passion and believe me, their passion is infectious. Since creating Be uninTIMidated in Sept 2012, we have raised $35,000 for rare cancer research and have been able to help 4 families, 3 of them local to Rochester. In addition, the initial doctor from Strong that told Tim he has 12-14 months to live, has been able to direct 5 of his patience to Dr. Sardi for treatment.
Our dream is to create an awareness of our organization worldwide so we can help others find the treatment they need and to let them know they are not alone, we are here to help.
Our goal is simple, “Pay it Forward”.
I have attached 2 files, the first is “The Wesley Story” which provides more detail on the process Tim went through and the reason for the organization. The second is a flier for an upcoming fund raising event, a Casino night in Webster NY on February 1st. In addition, we have a website, www.beunintimidated.org
if you want to learn more about the organization.
If there is any way you could consider them in your every day hero segment to recognize all they do, it would mean the world to a lot of us.
Thanks Tony, we greatly appreciate your help.
