News10NBC has learned that the Rochester City School District is one of a number of districts in five states that will be adding 300 more hours of time to the school year. That announcement was made Monday and will take affect for the 2013-2014 school year.

The initiative is called the “Time Collaborative”. Officials say it goes beyond simply expanding the learning day or year — school officials will have the opportunity to completely re-imagine how time is used by both students and teachers.

Community organizations, teachers unions, and local businesses will play a key role in the effort, helping schools rethink their schedules and find creative ways to cost effectively add learning time.
